Minecraft has gone from PC fixture to pop culture darling since its release almost two years ago.
Though the Xbox 360 version has been a download only affair since it hit Xbox Live Arcade May last year, the retail disc based saw its launch earlier this month and it reports have it becoming the fastest selling console game in the U.S.
According to reports, series creator Markus "Notch" Persson went to twitter today to announce the news.
"Haha, so apparently the physical disc version of Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition has been out in stories for several days," tweeted Persson. "And they're telling me it's currently the fastest selling console game in US. Neato! :D"
The Xbox Live version of Minecraft: Xbox One Edition recouped development cost in just one hour and went on to sell one million copies within the fist four days.
News comes as developer 4J Studios confirmed via Twitter that Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition won't be neglected once it's Xbox One edition is released around launch.
"Lots of people are asking if we'll continue updating #MinecraftXBLA after the release of #MinecraftXbox1," tweeted 4J Studios. "Yes, we will!"
In an interview with OXM UK, Microsoft Game Studio's head Phil Spencer said that saves from Minecraft's Xbox 360's edition wouldn't carry over to it's Xbox One upgrade.
"No, it's a new product on Xbox One," said Spencer. " We're actually updating it in pretty significant ways for the new platform. Bigger worlds, which don't translate between the Xbox 360 and Xbox One."
Spencer would later backpeddle is arguement in a tweet directed at OXM UK and Eurogamer.
"Just chatted to @popsRamjet and we are still actually discussing it with @4jstudios! Stay tuned tiny.cc/8ktoyw @OXMUK @Eurogamer," Spencer tweeted.
While official numbers aren't available for the retail Xbox 360 edition, the original PC version has racked in over 11 million in sales and 10 million for its mobile version.
