It looks like supermodel Kate Upton can't seem to move on from her fiancé, Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, losing out on the Cy Young Award to Boston Red Sox right handed pitcher Rick Porcello. It's already been a week since her infamous rant on twitter and apparently Kate Upton is still not done criticizing the voting process of the Cy Young award.
You may recall that Justin Verlander lost the Cy Young award in controversial fashion. Despite getting six fewer first place votes than runner-up Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers, Rick Porcello of the Boston Red Sox won the American League (AL) CY Young Award. It was a stunning result and it's one of the craziest awards votes in recent memory.
Kate Upton's twitter rant may come as somewhat of a cheap shot to the Boston Red Sox's Rick Porcello. It's kind of like dismissing and not recognizing the talent and ability of Rick Porcello. You can't actually blame Kate Upton for being upset that Justin Verlander lost out on the Cy Young award. After all the two are a couple and just recently got engaged. So it's only natural for Kate Upton to protect her man.
In response to the question of Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports regarding her dismissive comments, Kate Upton took the opportunity to clear the air. Ken Rosenthal's question actually was directed for Justin Verlander. It was Kate Upton who responded.
According to Kate Upton, her tweets have nothing to do with Rick Porcello personally. She even mentioned that Rick Porcello and Justin Verlander were teammates with the Detroit Tigers from 2009-2014. It was directed towards the voting system. She cited a flaw in the system in which writers are allowed to submit their ballots early.
In Justin Velrander's case, two writers didn't have Justin Verlander on their ballots. The two writers are Fred Goodall of the Associated Press and Bill Chastin of MLB.com. Both are from Tampa Bay.
Bill Chastin admitted submitting his ballot early with about a week to go before the season ends. In that week, Justin Verlander only allowed one run in his final 14 2/3 innings. Rick Porcello gave up six earned runs in his final two starts. Justin Verlander's performance during the final week of the season was enough to give him the lead in ERA.
Given how close the race was for the Cy Young Award, Bill Chastin's early submission of his ballot was a crucial mistake. It left off Justin Velrander's stats for the final week and it cost him the Cy Young Award. Here's hoping that the MLB would make a rule change regarding this matter. That would probably make Kate Upton a little bit happy.
