Nintendo Switch Rumors And Updates: Console Might Support Motion Controls

Since its announcement early this year, the Nintendo Switch is one of the most anticipated upcoming consoles. Details since then have been few mostly few and far in between. But a comment made GameStop CEO Paul Raines could give us some information on the Nintendo Switch.

When asked about the Nintendo Switch's features having the potential to expand the gaming audience similar to the Nintedo Wii, Nintendo's last great home console, GameStop CEO Paul Raines has this to say, "A movement-related game is more fun for kids, you know, taking those accessories off - [the detachable Joy-Con pads] - you can really do a lot of interesting things with that in gameplay."

Judging from the Nintendo Switch's reveal trailer, the console seems to be lacking motion controls that have been a common feature for the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo Wii U. Motion controls have been the key for Nintendo Wii as it expanded their market to cater not only to gamers but to non-gamers themselves. The Nintendo Wii provided with a new and revolutionary way of playing games that non-gamers can enjoy.  It made the Nintendo Wii a standard for all living rooms in the U.S.

It's strange then that Nintendo decided to not include the feature on the Nintendo Switch since motion controls is reason for the success of the Nintendo Wii. But with GameStop CEO recent comments, there is hope that motion controls might make its way to the Nintendo Switch.

To add to this, Nintendo president, Tatsumi Kimishima said that some hardware accessories have not been revealed yet. This could mean that Nintendo has yet to show peripherals for the Nintendo Switch that can support motion controls. But then again it is also questionable for Nintendo to add a separate feature not included in the base package of the Nintendo Switch which will split its audience.

GameStop has high hopes for the Nintendo Switch expecting it to have huge sales. Surveys show that 27% of those aware of the console are planning to purchase the Nintendo Swtich. Paul Raines also praised the console in his short playthrough calling it an "interesting device and a potential game-changer"

The Nintendo Switch is scheduled to be released on March 2017. Stay tuned for more updates on the Nintendo Switch,
