The song was recorded in 1982 while Price was working on his album "1999." "Moonbeam Levels" is a classic Prince signature. The song has a combination of stirring guitar ostinatos, euphoric choral whines and feeble piano keys in a clumping R&B. The melodic passions of the ballad's arrangement backgrounds the song's melancholic tinge. The lyrics, "Please send all your moonbeam levels to me, I'm looking for a better place to die," delivered in Price's masterful vocals, sealed the over-all tone of the song.
Prince considered "Moonbeam Levels" to be contained in an album he was working on in 1988 called "Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic;" but it was rejected. The album was initially titled "Rave unto the Joy Fantastic" but was altered to its released name to sync with his "1999" record according to Rollingstone. That album contains Prince's greatest hit songs like "The Sun, the Moon and Stars," "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold" and "Tangerine."
"Moonbeam Levels" is officially part of the newest album, "Prince 4ever." The album is a collection of 40 greatest songs by the artist. The album marks Prince's first recordings released after he passed away in April 21.
According to LA Times, Prince's Paisley Park Estate in Chanhassen contains hundreds of unreleased songs. The musician's vault is already planning to make a deluxe reissue of "Purple Rain." It is planned to be included on a second album containing unreleased recorded materials. The album is anticipated to be released early in 2017. While fans are fervently anticipating the upcoming music from Prince after his untimely passing earlier this year, the battle over his $300 million estate still continues, as per ABC.
