Scientists have found a new way to make your phone last for a whole lot longer without charging. The discovery comes at a time there is a saturation of phone models in the market. Almost every year, a new smartphone gets released without people realizing that as time goes by, they look more and more similar to each other regardless of brand.
However, most smartphone users would be united by one feature that is common to all and that is limited battery life. Most could not even go through a day without running out of battery and this has been quite rough for users.
Smartphone Battery That Last 20 Times Longer Than The Average
However, some tech companies have already noted this concern and are consistently coming up with new means to solve this current generation problem. The latest technology that addresses such issue comes from the University of Central Florida, where a prototype of a supercapacitor battery has been built.
These batteries have been reported to last as much as 20 times longer than the current average for most lithium-ion cell batteries in smartphones. Phone Arena reports that this new technology could be any smartphone user's dream since when it is charged for a few seconds, a device could last a whole week without needing another charge.
This happens because supercapacitors store power on the surface of the material and do not require a chemical reaction to create the power. That is why these charge very quickly. The prototype has been reported to be chargeable for up to 30,000 times and still act like it is brand new.
The Future Of Supercapacitor Batteries For Smartphones
According to Science Alert, as of this writing, a supercapacitor that could store as much power as a current generation lithium-ion battery would be much larger than what could fit in a smartphone. However, by coming up with an innovative way of attaching two-dimensional nanomaterials to supercapacitors, scientists have created supercapacitors that are a lot smaller, lighter and more flexible and could even store more power. These supercapacitors are the potential solution to the current problem of phones dying way too fast.
