After Sony's PlayStation 4 dished out what critics call a proper spanking to Microsoft's Xbox One at this year's E3, it seems the customers are in agreement. Sony's new console is now the top pre-ordered console over at Amazon, and Sony products overall have 12 spots out of Amazon's top 20 best sellers for video games, with the PlayStation 4 taking the first and third spots.
It's a similar story for games for the company's consoles as well, The Last of Us for the PS3 at #4, Watch Dogs for the PS4 at #11, Killzone: Shadows Fall for the PS4 at #13, Far Cry 3 for the PS3 at #14, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 ReMIX at #18, and Battlefield 4 at #19. Remarkably, there's not a single game for Xbox One that managed to crack Amazon's top 20. You won't see an Xbox One title until Forza Motorsports at #27.
Blockbuster is reporting similar instances, saying that pre-orders for the PlayStation 4 are "through the roof," and have been ever since Sony announced the console's price was $100 cheaper than Microsoft's Xbox One.
"In the wake of Xbox One's record-breaking pre-order success at Blockbuster last month, the PS4 has received the same incredibly positive reaction, proving that the gaming industry is booming," the company said.
"We are absolutely thrilled with the amazing response to our pre-order service for both the PS4 and Xbox One," added James Morton, head of product at Blockbuster. "We're looking forward to seeing the brand new consoles in our stores along with the latest games to buy or rent. 2013 has been a fantastic year for gaming at Blockbuster and its set to only get better following the announcements at E3."
Sony revealed Monday night that the PlayStation 4 won't require an "always online" connection, supports used games without any catches, and will retail for $399. By comparison, the Xbox One requires an online connection every 24 hours, or it loses the ability to play games. Used games can be traded with friends, but only once, and that friend must be on your friend list for at least 30 days. Microsoft will retail the console for $499.
