The Elder Scrolls Online, the upcoming MMO title from ZeniMax Online Studios, is easily one of the hottest incoming titles of the future. And this is mostly due to the fact that the game represents a massively popular behemoth world of the Elder Scrolls. Now there’s more to follow up on the game, and this includes a possibility of cross platform play.
According to recent reports, ZeniMax Online has confirmed via its official Twitter page that the game will not allow any cross platform play whatsoever, and that players will be segregated based on what platform they are playing the game on.
With the inception of The Elder Scrolls Online, there was a firm belief in the community that players, for the first time ever on different platforms, will actually be able to come together under a single roof and battle it out against each other. However, with the new decision, PC players will have to contend with other PC players and the similar thing for every platform on the market.
When, on Twitter, a fan asked if the game will allow PC players to match up with PS3 players or if it will have a separate server for them, the studio in its Elder Scrolls page wrote that “megaserver technology will allow PC/Mac players to play together.” “Xbox One & PS4 players,” on the other hand, “will have distinct megaservers.”
While this is a bad news for players up to a certain extent, as far as connecting with others on other platforms is concerned, it still makes a fair bit of sense since different platforms will arrive with different control schemes and, as an example, the control on PC will be far different from that of consoles, and this could lead to unexpected glitches and freezes.
Plus, we are not sure as to how two different platforms will react when put under the same command system, so Zenimax’s decision obviously makes sense.
“Four years ago, in 2E 578, an arcane explosion of energy in the Imperial City set off mystical aftershocks that swept across Nirn. Mages died or went mad. Supernatural abominations from the plane of Oblivion, the Daedra, appeared in greater numbers than ever before. The constellation of the Serpent grew so large that it dominated the night sky,” the official page states.
“In the midst of this chaos, three alliances vie for control of the Imperial City and the White-Gold Tower. High Rock, Sentinel, and Orsinium stand as one, united under the rule of the High King in Wayrest. Valenwood and Elsweyr have forged an alliance of their own with Summerset, while Black Marsh, Morrowind, and Skyrim have formed a third, uneasy pact.”
The Elder Scrolls Online is currently set for a spring 2014 release.
