Dead Rising 3 detailed: Capcom may be committing the same Resident Evil 6 mistake

Dead Rising 3, the upcoming open world hack-and-slash zombie title from Capcom, finally has revealed more details. Apart from the general stuff, the company has also revealed facts about its intentions of changing the direction of the game with a lot more seriousness and realistic graphics put into it.

In a recent interview with GameSpot, Capcom Vancouver stated that the next Dead Rising title on the cards will be more “visceral” and appeal to the general Call of Duty player.

“Capcom Vancouver presented Dead Rising 3 behind closed doors, walking us through the demonstration that debuted during the Microsoft press conference while answering questions about the direction that they've taken. The changes that you can see in images were not a fluke. Capcom is pointedly trying to appeal to a wider audience in this latest iteration, saying it's going after the Call of Duty player,” the report states.

“Gone is the cartoonish visual design, replaced by a more "realistic" interpretation of a viral apocalypse. That change is part of the maturation. By shifting the art style, the combat can be ‘more visceral’ than in previous versions, with ‘real gore’.”

Dead Rising 3, this time around, won’t have the time limit constraints from the previous games. And instead, it will rely on open world gameplay with “non-stop action”. The game’s unique collection of weapons is reportedly the feature that will set the game apart from its predecessors. However, the Nightmare mode will apparently hold time limits for split decision making.

“The urgency that defined Dead Rising has been turned off in the demo we were shown. Time created ‘extreme pressure’ in the original games, and Capcom wants the zombies to be your biggest threat this time around. In Dead Rising 2, you now run around broken-down neighborhoods, killing zombies in horrific ways without real motivation to push forward. Because of the shift in artistic tone and the nonstop combat, this Xbox One launch game now looks like any other open-world game,” the report adds.

“The team is confident that the ability to create unique weapons will separate Dead Rising 3 from the crowd, but that spark of originality was absent in the demo we were shown.”

Other new details that were brought into light for the game include the Kinect functionality, offering the ability to shout at zombies to get their attention, alongside the players’ ability to shake off zombies by moving their arms in real-life.

Dead Rising is a cool franchise and the games have been quite entertaining for what they're worth. However, one wonders as to which way Capcom is heading with the game, especially after the mess it had on its hands with the arrival of Resident Evil 6.

On a similar note, we did have huge expectations from Resident Evil 6.

Dead Rising 3 is currently in development for Xbox One.
