The Brooklyn Nets main problem right now is the point guard, a position hampered heavily with the unfortunate hamstring injury that sidelined Jeremy Lin. Coach Kenny Atkinson has tried out the guys on the roster like Randy Foye, Sean Kilpatrick, and rookie Isaiah Whitehead but so far no one has fit in nicely.
Could a former first-round pick in Caris LeVert prove different? LeVert is actually an off-guard like most of the names mentioned earlier so Atkinson may have yet another player to try out. Though he is not billed as someone who can already play, he is likely to be ready ahead of the injured Jeremy Lin.
During his days in Michigan, LeVert did struggle with injuries. But based on scouting reports, LeVert could be a top prospect for as long as he keeps himself healthy, Nets Daily reported.
LeVert finally went through a whole practice with the Nets so his debut is more likely to happen soon. But as Atkinson said, it may take more time to get him into the groove of things before he is formally given the green light to play in the NBA, NY Post reported.
Caris LeVert was the 20th overall pick of the Indiana Pacers in the 2016 NBA Draft but his rights were later on traded to Brooklyn in exchange for Thaddeus Young. He eventually underwent surgery and a reconstruction by Dr. Martin O’ Malley, the same one who operated on Brook Lopez and Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant.
At 6-foot-7 with a wingspan of 6-foot-10, there is no question that many want to see what the 22-year-old native of Columbus can do. He could debut ahead of Jeremy Lin and coach Atkinson is hoping he makes a difference.
The Nets are spiraling right now despite the best efforts. Aside from the absence of a true point guard, one department the team needs to improve on is their defense.
