Bill Goldberg was all set to bid farewell to the WWE at the Nov. 21 edition of WWE Raw but somehow the script changed. Following his 86-second disposal of Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series, the 49-year-old former champion has dangled an opportunity to have a title-run before his career truly winds down.
Goldberg seemed interested in the jab and eventually announced he would be one of the 30 WWE stars at the Royal Rumble set for Jan. 29, 2017, WWE.com reported. For those who have followed Goldberg’s career, the move recalls a fairly similar one way back in 2004.
The Royal Rumble at that time saw Goldberg come in as the 30th entrant as he intended to win back the WWE title he lost to Triple H at Armageddon in 2003. His plans fell short when one man cost him his title-shot. That man was no other than Brock Lesnar.
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the same scenario could happen once again. When Lesnar screwed Goldberg out of his shot, both met at Wrestlemania 20, Bleacher Report reported.
Now it is déjà vu once again for both monsters. If the WWE follows that script, the Goldberg vs. Lesnar III may as well be booked for Wrestlemania 33 as expected.
Seeing however that Goldberg is now 2-0 over the “Beast Incarnate” it will be interesting how the creative team will book this one. Either way, a title-run could be used as a front for now but anything can change once mayhem erupts at the WWE Royal Rumble in January.
Having 30 stars slugging it out is tough to handle and apparently, Goldberg is not excluded from elimination which will lead to script changes. Lesnar doesn’t even have to be a participant to foil Goldberg’s bid. Once that happens, all hell is likely to break loose.
