Marvel's "Black Panther" has added their latest cast member on their upcoming prequel movie that will be released in 2018. "American Horror Story" actress Angela Bassett is set to play Romonda the mother of the Prince T'Challa of the African Nation, Wakanda played by Chadwick Boseman.
There is no confirmation whether Angela Bassett's character, Ramonda, will be T'Challa's stepmother in the Marvel's "Black Panther". In the Marvel's comics, T'Challa's mother died giving birth to him according to Independent UK. There might be some alterations in the film adaptation or the character's description was just simplified when announced.
Aside from her gig in Marvel's "Blank Panther", this is not the first time Angela Basset has played a comic book character in the movies. The "London Has Fallen" actress played the iconic DC Comic character Amanda Waller in the 2011 "Green Lantern" film that starred "Deadpool" actor Ryan Reynolds.
Angela Basset will be joined by other cast members of Marvel's "Black Panther", including Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa, "Fantastic Four" actor Michael B. Jordan, Forest Whitaker, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke and Florence Kasumba. Production of "Black Panter" is expected to begin early 2017.
Marvel's "Black Panther" was first seen in the thirteenth film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, "Captain America: Civil War" which featured Iron Man a.ka. Tony Stark. Chadwick Boseman was given a full arc and character development before putting on the "Black Panther" identity.
Marvel's "Black Panther" will be written by Joe Rober Cole and will be produced by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. Marvel's "Black Panther" will be released on February 16, 2018.
