To go alongside of Supes' summer re-do flick, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced that the eponymous Man of Steel is getting a mobile game all his own, set to release alongside the "Man of Steel" movie. The game of the same title will be available on all "i" devices, and any number of Android gadgets like smartphones and tablets.
The game is a 3D brawler where gamers do battle with exiled "Man of Steel" villain General Zod and his invading Kryptonians. Big blue fights 'em all on land and in the air.
Two modes of play are offered by the mobile Man of Steel game: Story mode transports players directly to Smallville, the Kent Farm and other familiar settings to battle General Zod and save Earth from its destruction. In Survival Mode is the game's attempt at an arcade basher, where fans see how long they can last against progressively more difficult swarms of Zod's forces. The longer you survive, the higher you score and more experience you earn to unlock traditional Superman skills. Heat vision? Check. Super strength? Bingo. Flight? Hoo-rah. Inexplicable ability to peel the S-shield from chest and throw it at an evildoer, merely dealing a minor inconvenience? Maybe as a DLC...
"The Man of Steel game allows Superman fans to extend the movie experience and game on-the-go with their favorite characters from the 'Man of Steel' film," said Greg Ballard, Senior Vice President, Mobile, Social and Emerging Platforms, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "Phosphor Games delivered an addictive brawler that lets players feel the power of being a Super Hero."
The Man of Steel App arrives when the movie opens, June 14th. It'll be available for $2.99 from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch. An HD version is available for $4.99 on iPad. If you're a Droid kinda person, you can grab the game for $4.99 for Android smartphones and tablets from Google Play or Amazon Appstore for Android.
This summer, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures present "Man of Steel," starring Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, under the direction of Zack Snyder. I think we all know the story at this point, but for the sake of PR..."A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind."
A trailer recently went up, showing what the game looks like. Unlike his Gotham counterpart, it's been a damn long time since Superman ever had a decent game (if ever), but to be fair, this doesn't look all that bad for a mobile game. Low bar, but it should beat the snot out of that atrocious P.O.S on the Nintendo 64. Just don't go in expecting an Arkham game. See for yourself below.
