Some people are just so impatient. A man in New Zealand recently forwent the final month of house arrest to go to prison. The Whangarei man said he had to go to prison because he ran out of Xbox games to play.
During his 10 months of house arrest, the man phoned police to say he was bored at home and would break the terms of his sentence if he spent another month at home. Luckily, New Zealand police are an understanding bunch. After his call, the police promptly went to his home and sent him to prison.
New Zealand newspaper The Northern Advocate reports that the 19-year old man has been sent to the Northland Region Corrections Facility to serve out the final month of his sentence. While at Northland, he will be surrounded by 548 other prisoners who are serving under minimum-to-high security detention. It's also safe to assume that the prison will not have an Xbox.
We're not certain whether the man was referring to the original Xbox or Xbox 360. However, if we're to assume that he was talking about the original Xbox, there's actually many great games to play on the old school console.
The original Xbox has the classic games Beyond Good and Evil, Fry Cry, Jade Empire, Doom III and Fable. Even lesser known titles such as Arx Fatalis, Deus Ex; Invisible War, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey and Destroy All Humans are better than prison time.
Plus, the best part of those old school games is that they are cheap. Money shouldn't be a huge issue when he is under house arrest. After all, what else is he going to spend money on? Spending less than $10 to get you through another month on house arrest doesn't seem that much of a stretch.
While it's easy to deride this man's decision, The Northern Advocate says that house arrest isn't as easy as some might think. According to the paper, house arrest is the second most restrictive sentence in the country. Offenders under hour arrest are required to remain at an approved residence at all times and those under house arrest wear a tracking monitor.
