Diablo 3’s new game director discusses Blizzard’s future plans: Auction House also detailed

The Diablo franchise has only one way to go, and that’s up, according to Diablo 3’s new game director Josh Mosqueira.

The new game director, only recently, took to the game’s official Website where he discussed Blizzard's plans for the future of the popular action RPG title. And according to Mosqueira, the company will need to focus on making in-game items feel more real and meaningful while reducing "the impact of the Auction House" in Diablo 3.

“We've built a solid foundation for the future of Diablo III and we're focused on staying true to the core essence of the game, while pushing boundaries to evolve gameplay in ways that will keep players like you excited. We hope you'll agree that with each update, the game keeps getting better and better, and we're only just getting started,” Mosqueira stated.

“We want items to feel more meaningful, and we want players to be excited about the next loot drop. Our goal is to make the loot experience more enjoyable for ALL players. This includes reducing the amount of loot that drops while improving the overall quality, introducing targeted Legendaries, and giving players ways to directly customize their character's armor—both visually and mechanically.”

Mosqueira also confirmed that the company is “looking into ways to reduce the impact of the Auction House. While we think the feature does provide a lot of value, it shouldn’t feel like the end-all-be-all force driving character progression.”

Mosqueira, who, according to the post, was brought into the Diablo 3 team to help develop the console versions of the game after the departure of former game director Jay Wilson, further stated that the Diablo 3’s future is bright and that the team will be “focused on preserving the core fantasy by cultivating the roots of the Diablo storyline, fine-tuning the heroes for what lays ahead, and creating new monsters and demons that will once again plant the seed of fear in your hearts."

Diablo 3 is currently set for an arrival on PS3 and PS4.

Previous director Jay Wilson had earlier announced that he had left his position to work on another project within Blizzard. Tagging the development of Diablo 3 "one of the most challenging and rewarding periods of my life," Wilson said that after being with the team for seven years, he had “reached a point creatively where [he's] looking forward to working on something new.”
