MONTREAL - Google has funded Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms (MILA), an Artificial Intelligence laboratory in University of Montreal, Canada. To increase the brainpower in the AI research laboratory, it has given $4.5 million over three years to the institute.
Google AI Update: $4.5 million Will Be Given To Montreal
According to Fortune, Google Artificial Intelligence in Canada has been set to be empowered. The search giant has been creating a new Artificial Intelligence group in Montreal as part of Google's Brain team. This is through investing $4.5 million over three years in an Artificial Intelligence research laboratory at the University of Montreal, Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms.
Google AI Update: Funding Will Include Experts Behind Deep Learning
Google's funds will cover the experts behind Deep Learning. With this Artificial Intelligence technique, it is possible to feed large quantities of data into neural nets software systems and understand information patterns. Experts that has been funded in the project include Artificial Intelligence initiator Yoshua Bengio who is the head of Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms (MILA). He was also the one who made the major effort to develop Artificial Intelligence projects in Montreal and attract funding from major IT companies. Other experts in the Montreal team includes AI researchers Geoffrey Hinton from Google's research team and Yann LeCun from Facebook's research team.
Google AI Update: Hugo Larochelle Hired From Twitter Central Team?
Shibl Mourad serves as the head of engineering of Montreal's Google Artificial Intelligence group. Google has also hired Hugo Larochelle who was a top scientist at Twitter and part of the central Artificial Intelligence team. He is set to lead the new Google Artificial Intelligence unit in Montreal.
Google AI Update: Google Will Use Yoshua Bengio's Projects?
In Financial Post, Shibl Mourad says that Yoshua Bengio's projects serve as the foundation. They hope to turn Montreal into a super-cluster of Artificial Intelligence knowledge. This will eventually attract more corporate investors, startups, and researchers.
Google will use Yoshua Bengio's projects as the foundation for the AI research at Montreal lab. These projects use and layer neural networks that are similar to how the brain works. With this, computer programs can learn to think more like humans, identify patterns and solve complex problems on their own. Users can just talk to computers with Google Artificial Intelligence then they will understand what they want and need.
