After Nokia faded away from the mobile phone scene following failures to adapt to iOS and Android, and a futile attempt at a last chance with Windows Phone, the legendary manufacturer is trying one more comeback. There are rumors that Nokia was about to release a new set of Android phones with their brand name, and it looks like the market is about to get them sooner than later.
The new rumors state that Nokia is about to launch these new phones at next year's Mobile World Congress in February, reports Android Authority. A Nokia presentation delivered recently made an announcement that the company's phones would return next year, which confirms the rumors. They've already confirmed via Twitter that Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri will be speaking at the MWC, but the exact content of his speech is not yet known.
While it's entirely possible that Suri's keynote speech will not be about new Nokia phones at all, it's silly to think that there won't be an announcement at such a huge event for the industry. The new Nokia Android phones will not actually be manufactured by the company itself, as Nokia as a company doesn't exist anymore. Instead, the brand name has been licensed to another manufacturer called HMD Global, comprised of former Nokia employees, after Microsoft did away with their rights to the name. HMD Global was put up overnight just so the old Nokia veterans could still be the ones to keep making the new phones.
The new Nokia smartphones are rumored to be flagship models with pretty high specs. One such rumor from Gadget 360 says that the higher end of the line will be equipped with 5.2 and 5.5-inch displays, the Snapdragon 820 chip, and Android 7.0 or 7.1 Nougat as the operating system. The Mobile World Congress 2017 opens on February 27 in Barcelona, Spain.
