The E3 is back and with it a lot of expectations from gamers all over the planet. As always, a lot is to be announced and seen at this year’s convention and with big names in the industry already set to showcase what they have for the rest of the year the E3 is bound to fill us up on prospects of the future.
Among other companies set to unveil their big guns, Sony will no doubt play an important role when it takes center-stage during the event. Now it’s a no brainer that Sony will of course give us more details on the highly anticipated PlayStation 4 console, but it’s more than just a console release for Sony and there will be other announcements as well.
While it’s already been announced that Nintendo won’t be available at the event, the E3 will mostly be a show that will be run by Microsoft and Sony – Microsoft for the arrival of the Xbox One. However, as we are concentrating more on Sony at this point of time, it is worth noting that Sony will not want to repeat the mistakes it did with the release of the previous PS3.
Sony will concentrate more on the PS4 this time around with a host of revelations about the console on the cards. One of the foremost things about the announcements related to PS 4 involves its pricing details, apart from a potential release date, and we can be sure to an extent that Sony will drop the required information with E3 being the right place for it.
Another important information that Sony might reveal at the event is the fact if the company will continue to support the ever popular PS3. Going by the current trend in the industry, it would actually be quite surprising if Sony doesn’t continue supporting the console.
If things fall in place, Sony will continue to show its support for upcoming PS3 releases such as GTA 5 and Watch Dogs, and although these games might already have a port for the next generation PS4, Sony would like to enjoy the continued business it sees from the sales of the PS3 and will look to convince fans that PS3 is still worth the money.
Then there is the probability of PS4 exclusives being showcased at the E3. While Sony has already showcased a number of PS4 exclusives back in February during its reveal, there is huge chance that these titles will make a second appearance at the E3 and only this time they will arrive in playable forms.
But there should also be other PS4 exclusives revealed for the first time and with titles like The Last of Us from Naughty Dog already completed, Sony has a chance of making some well received announcements that might take it a step ahead of Xbox One, as far as the fight for market superiority is concerned. Other titles such as The Last Guardian and Agent from Rockstar might also be in contention.
Moreover, Sony is also expected to reveal the complete picture as to how the backwards compatibility will work out. Although backward compatibility might not seem that big a deal for many fans, Sony will surely know its importance mostly after Microsoft revealed that it will not support backward compatibility. The streaming technology from Gaikai that will be used by Sony is this respect was already stated during the PS4 reveal.
On a similar note, we also seek a clarification as to how PS4 used games system will work out. As of yet, all we know is that Microsoft is yet to provide anything concrete about its stance on used games being used on Xbox One, and so we expect Sony to come up with something in this sector as soon as possible.
This year’s E3 will take place at Los Angeles from June 11 to June 13.
