Wikipad, Inc. announced today that its Wikipad tablet is launching on June 11 in the U.S.
The seven inch gaming tablet features a high definition display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, 2MP front facing camera and detachable dual-analog controller to complement its five-point touchscreen. Powering the Android 4.1 tablet is Nvdia's Tegra 3 quad-core mobile processor that's optimized for cloud gaming with a 12 core Nvidia GPU and 1GB of DDR3. Internal storage will come at 16 GB with a micro SD slot that can be expanded up to 32 GB. Also supported is a HDMI out slot, GPS, accelerometer and gyroscope.
Chairman of Wikipad Inc. Matthew Joynes hopes the tablet will revolutionize mobile gaming.
"The launch of the Wikipad 7 tablet signals a transformative turning point in the direction of the mobile gaming industry," said Joynes. "Wikipad's tablet combines the latest range of features found in a premium Android tablet together with the unrivaled console video game experience only available with a gamepad."
Content services supported include Google Play, Playstation Mobile and Nvidia's own TegraZone.
Retail stores including Walmart, Best Buy and TigerDirect will carry the device at launch for $249, an incredible value according to President of Sales at Wikipad Inc. Fraser Townley.
"There is no other mobile device on the market that possesses Wikipad's unique functionality and versatility and all available with full warranty and customer support at an entry level price point," said Townley.
According to reports, the original Wikipad was to include ten inch screen before switching to a seven inch model due for affordability reasons and movement of mobile tablet market.
"The smaller frame delivers an aggressive price while keeping the same amazing specs,"said Townley who hopes to add a ten inch version sometime down the line.
Android gaming has been on the rise due to Google announcing its Google Play Games at last month's I/O conference in San Francisco. On the hardware side, Ouya's home gaming console and Nvidia's own Shield portable system will see launches later this month.
