The fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were shocked when "Deadpool" director Tim Miller left the "Deadpool 2" project late October this year. Tim Miller's "Deadpool" which opened in February earned $132.4 million at the opening weekend, making it the biggest for an R-rated film. The movie then made over $780 million worldwide.
It has been reported that creative differences between "Deadpool" actor Ryan Reynolds and Tim Miller led to the departure of the director. Miller wanted to make "Deadpool 2" bigger in scope than "Deadpool," which means three times the budget. Reynolds wanted "Deadpool 2" to be modest and focus on its clever writing. Fox went to look for candidates for "Deadpool 2" director but was closely eyeing on the director of Keanu Reeves' movie "John Wick," David Leitch. According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Leitch is Fox's forerunner for directing "Deadpool 2" and has already met with Ryan Reynolds.
David Leitch is an actor, stuntman, writer, producer, stunt coordinator, and film director. Attached to his name are his stuntwork in "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," Wesley Snipes' "Blade," and "Fight Club." He also played as a stunt double to Brad Pitt, "Ocean's Eleven," "The Matrix Revolution," "300" and "The Bourne Ultimatum" to name a few.
He was the second unit director or assistant director to "Conan, The Barbarian," "The Mechanic," "Jurassic World," "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and "Captain America: Civil War." "John Wick" was his directorial debut.
He just recently finished a film with Charlize Theron in "The Coldest City." Now Fox and Reynolds has hired him to direct "Deadpool 2" and add the title to his resume.
Leitch's filmography landed him the role to direct "Deadpool 2." Following the success and the amazing action sequences of "Deadpool," everybody has high expectations for the sequel. According to The Hollywood Reporter the search is on for the director of "Deadpool 3."
No plot details have been announced yet but Deadpool in "Deadpool 2" will have bouts with Cable and Domino. Both are partners of The Merc with the Mouth from the comics. "Deadpool 2" will hit theaters in 2018
