Halo 5 is supposed to be the second game in the newly started Halo franchise after the successful run of Halo 4. While nothing has been confirmed about the game, fans still believe that the game will eventually arrive (if not now, then in the near future maybe). And when the next Halo is confirmed, it will be ready for the new Xbox One.
Halo 5 rumors started buzzing even before Halo 4 was even announced. Back in February 2011, a certain news segment (see below) revealed an “Inside Halo 5″ placeholder graphic that clearly showed the existence of the title, but nothing else transpired after that which related to the game. However, taking a few hints and notes from Halo 4, we could come up with the likely scenarios the game will arrive in.
It has already been about six months since Halo 4 was released by Microsoft, and it would be okay to expect something related to Halo 4 during the upcoming E3 2013. Below is a detailed list of all we know about the game and what you could expect when it’s finally made official.
In October last year, a report from The Seattle Times showed that Halo 5 is already in development during a Q&A session with Bonnie Ross, head of 343 Industries, and Frank O'Connor, franchise development director.
On asked whether the company is working on the next version of Halo and if it will be critical for the next generation of Xbox, O’Connor stated: “We've done as much prototyping and storytelling and the future arc of the universe as we have on technology. So we're definitely working on the future but in some ways it's technologically agnostic at this point.”
Apart from this, Halo 5 is anyway officially a part of the future by being the second installment in the Reclaimer Trilogy. Moreover, the development team is aware of the few areas they went wrong with Halo 4 and is keen to make amends as soon as the next game is completed.
“There are a ton of things we wish we'd done better: Features that didn’t make it into the final game. Glitches that emerged. Missteps made. DLC fiascos. Communication breakdowns. But there were things that went astonishingly well – the creation of a genuinely competitive AAA studio chief among them,” Halo Waypoint stated.
“A collection of talent and souls that can do something genuinely amazing on this and next-generation hardware. The overhaul of an amazing game engine – but one that really needed to be overhauled – and an amassed education on systems, people, code and audience that will stand us in great stead for the future.”
Nonetheless, Halo 5 will definitely be an Xbox One exclusive, and there’s also a slight chance that it will be one of the 15 exclusive titles that are planned to arrive alongside the final arrival of the Xbox One. And even if it gets an official announcement at the E3, the game shouldn’t be expected to arrive anytime before 2014.
A probable 2014 release date is more of a logical choice because, going by the history, there’s always a gap of at least three years before the next Halo game arrives, and there’s no reason why the same rule won’t apply this time for Halo 5.
For now, there are endless speculations about the concept of Halo 5 and Master Chief’s role in it, and nobody is quite sure what to expect when the game is announced. However, as mentioned earlier, this year’s E3 is expected to be big with lots of new titles being showcased and there’s no reason why Halo 5 shouldn’t be a part of it.
