As we reported earlier, The Last of Us demo was set to be available for owners of God of War: Ascension yesterday. However, at the time the demo became available, players began reporting some difficulties, rendering them unable to relish in their experience against mushroom plagued zombies.
Error code (80023017) is what greeted many as they tried to run the demo, prompting a hearty "WTF?" from folks. Shortly thereafter, the PS Store went down, and PlayStation Network began a maintenance period to fix the issue. The errors were thought to be related to the number of people attempting to download the demo. European gamers weren't as lucky, the official Twitter account telling fans they "can access The Last of Us demo from tomorrow."
The problem lingered for a bit, but as of late this afternoon, everything seems to be copacetic. From here, you should be able to give the demo a whirl by following the steps below:
- Throw in your God of War: Ascension disc.
- Install patch 1.07 if you haven't already.
- At Ascension's main menu, tap Square to get to the demo menu for The Last of Us.
- From here, there will be an option to go to the PlayStation Store. Go there, and follow the prompts to download the demo.
- Load it up, survive, and enjoy!
The first review for the game is already in, Edge magazine calling it an "easy contender for the best game of this console generation," adding, "The Last of Us is not just the finest game that Naughty Dog has yet crafted and an easy contender for the best game of this console generation, it may also prove to be gaming's Citizen Kane moment, a masterpiece that will be looked back upon favourably for decades."
Definitely one of the more hotly anticipated games arriving this season, The Last of Us takes 14 year old Ellie and "ruthless" survivor Joel through a post-apocalyptic U.S., where they'll be forced to trade wits with scavengers and a whole new kind of plague with the propensity to infect humans.
The full game arrives June 14.
