The Beastie Boys, one of the biggest-selling rap groups of all time, has called for an anti-hate rally. The announcement came after swastikas and a go-Trump scribble were found written in Adam Yauch Park. The organizers called the upcoming rally as MCA Day.
On their official Twitter account, Beastie Boys posted that hate has no place in Brooklyn, New York City or America. Further, the rap group asked the public to join them on Sunday to stand against hate messages. The New York Police Department and Parks Department are currently investigating the incident. The Mayor's office tweeted that Adam Yauch stood for tolerance. The tweet further urged the public to call 911 if there is vandalism, harassment or hateful acts.
In 2013, Brooklyn's Palmetto Playground was renamed, Adam Yauch Park. This is in honor of Beastie Boys rapper and borough resident MCA who died in 2012 of cancer. The place offers basketball courts and dog parks. The rally on Sunday will be led by New York State Senator Daniel Squadron, Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez and City council members Stephen Levin and Brad Lander.
It was noted that Lander was also censorious of President-elect Donald Trump after the head of state demanded that Hamilton cast apologize to Mike Pence. Lander, however, did not make comments on hate messages found in Brooklyn and many other places all over America since Trump was elected.
In the latest update, Ad-Rock, one of its former member, confirms his attendance for the said rally. Organizers of MCA Day posted the Song "Bodhisattva Vow" written by Adam Yauch on Facebook.
