Count on Netflix to deliver only the best content to its streaming service, including Marvel's "Luke Cage," which debuted to stellar reviews. The Mike Colter-starrer has earned his own amongst "Jessica Jones" and "Stranger Things," both of which continue to draw viewers. Now that the show is gearing up for a sophomore season, what can we expect from the Charles Murray-produced show?
While there's no official word on whether or not "Luke Cage" season 2 is a go, production remains hopeful that Netflix will let them proceed. The show earned impressive streaming stats as per Digital Spy, earning a spot alongside another breakthrough hit, "Stranger Things."
Series creator Cheo Hodari Coker spoke with IGN last month, saying that they already have some ideas for "Luke Cage" season 2, including the possibility of villains to return in sophomore season. He said that if "Luke Cage" season 2 is indeed a go, they will be exploring a "Heroes for Hire" situation, in which the character is to team up with Iron Fist.
Coker also said that he may explore the possibility of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage having a child together and completely changing the superhero dynamic. If this is any indication, "Luke Cage" season 2 will definitely be worth watching. It is assumed that along with the return of the show is that villains to return in sophomore season as well. These villains include Black Mariah, Shades, and WarHawk.
Black Mariah was first introduced in the show's freshman season and is expected to return in "Luke Cage" season 2 once it's a go. Black Mariah (Alfre Woodard) is already a fan favorite and it would be no surprise if the character makes a big comeback to the show.
Shades was also introduced in the first season, and come "Luke Cage" season 2, it would be interesting to see him as one of the villains set to return in sophomore season. The story might even delve into how he obtained his powers.
In the meantime, "Luke Cage" season 2 star Mike Colter is keeping busy with "The Defenders." According to We Got This Covered, they are currently shooting his stint in New York City, and some photos of the shoot have been made public. Keep checking back for the latest on "Luke Cage" season 2 and its air date.
