Controversial quarterback Johnny Manziel could be catching a break soon if his group and that of girlfriend Colleen Crowley come to a settlement. Something is apparently brewing between the two groups and the verdict may eventually be known soon.
Johnny Manziel was accused by Colleen Crowley of assault in January that could result in a fine and jail time but the representatives of both sides reportedly met with presiding judge Roberto Canlas privately. It is believed that the all were ironing out a possible settlement that could result in the dropping of the charges, AP reported.
The verdict could be handed out at the next court hearing, a big reprieve for the controversial quarterback who is currently out of an NFL team. He last played for the Cleveland Browns and everything just went astray following a controversial season.
Curiously, it was Manziel calling the plays on the field when the Browns last tasted victory. This happened in December 2015 when Cleveland defeated the San Francisco 49ers, USA Today reported. From there, things just haven’t been the same.
There were rumors that Manziel could be considered for a return though the 23-year-old former Heisman Trophy winner shot it down. It remains to be seen which NFL team would take their chances on Manziel who may end up seeing little to no action at all.
Thanks to his domestic assault case, Johnny Manziel will be serving a six-game ban as the NFL does its own investigation on the matter. For any team who would take their chance on Manziel, it may be a wasted effort unless it is something made to prepare for next season.
There are a lot of teams in need of a quarterback though Manziel’s attitude could be a factor. The Los Angeles Rams, New York Jets, Denver Broncos or even the San Francisco 49ers could take a chance on him though more of an investment for next season.
