The Game Awards 2016 is fast approaching and everything is set for the live event on December 1 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Some of the biggest names have been announced as nominees for this year's event.
The Game Awards 2016 will be the largest distributed digital event in history which will air live in a multitude of platforms. The event can be watched on Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and via Steam. Also, the show will be live in Next VR, China's Tencent, and Snapchat Live Story on December 1.
Geoff Keighley, producer and host, first created The Game Awards in 2014. The event is about recognizing brilliant video games from various developers. The event also showcases new video game titles from any game franchise. The Game Awards 2016 will also showcase new game titles that will be released in 2017.
According to its website, the selection of nominees for the Game Awards 2016 was according to the jury's selection and fan choice. The jury nominations for Game of the Year are: "Doom" by Bethesda, "Inside" by PlayDead, "Overwatch" by Blizzard Entertainment, "Titan Fall 2" by Electronic Arts and "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" by Sony.
The Game Awards 2016 will be different from the past in showcasing new games in 2017. Geoff Keighley promised that he will not allow the same mistake that happened with the game "No Man's Sky." The hype that the game created during its premiere at Game Awards' previous event made a black hole of disappointment from the gamers.
Geoff Keighley told Polygon, that the Game Awards 2016 will address the good moral of the story, "to make developers be more transparent about the state of their game." This is to avoid the idealized notion of any game that they will premiere in the event. "We're going [dive] deeper into games and gameplay," Keighley added. He pointed out that the game will be presented as "Let's Play" format.
Meanwhile, Hideo Kojima, one of the industry's accomplished and great storytellers, will receive the Game Awards 2016 highest honor, the Industry Icon Award. He is known for "Metal Gear Solid" series, which won last year as Best Action and Adventure game. The Industry Icon award is given to individuals who made a significant impact in the video game industry.
