'Sea Hero Quest' Release Date, Gameplay & Features: New Game Helps Detect Symptoms Of Dementia? How Does It Work?

No method of detecting dementia has ever been found until the launch of "Sea Hero Quest." This system is not any medical equipment or procedure, but a game that has been designed to ensure detection of the disease in people.

"Sea Hero Quest":  Dementia Experiment Developed The Game

A massive dementia research experiment was done in the form of a video/mobile game to find out the possibilities of tracking the dementia symptoms in users. The findings of the experiment were presented at the Neuroscience 2016 conference. The data collected for the experiment was based on responses of 2.4 million random people who downloaded "Sea Hero Quest."

The game has been designed such that it identifies the probablity of a person getting lost, which is the first indication of Alzheimer's. The University College London researchers who have worked and developed the video game believe that the results will help in detecting the disease. "Sea Hero Quest" is the game that directs players to help an old sailor to find his lost memories.

"Sea Hero Quest" Identifies Signs & Symptoms Of Alzheimer's Early

Although "Sea Hero Quest" was launched in May 2016, it has been restricted to those people who participated in the research. The Telegraph stated that the game shows how a person's ability to differentiate directions deteriorates with age, mostly after the teenage years. As soon as one touches his smartphone, the gamer has to start sailing a boat around the deserted islands and icy oceans.

The experiment indicated that "Sea Hero Quest" players aged 19 found the directions successfully with 74 percent success rates. On the other hand, people's ability to recall ways declines with age as only 46 percent people have successfully done that. "What we're able to announce to the world is it does decline across the lifespan, the ability to shoot the flare back to the target -- that sense of direction," Dr Hugo Spiers told the BBC.
