"Tekken 7" was launched in the arcades of Japan last March 2015. Only this year did Tekken's game developers announce that the gamers will be seeing "Tekken 7" in home systems like PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Gamespot interviewed Katsuhiro Harada, a producer of the franchise, regarding the details about "Tekken 7." Their discussions covered "Tekken 7" taking part in eSports. They also talked about the availability of the game in different gaming platforms and character development.
In the competitive world of eSports, Harada mentioned that they've already done tournaments with the current arcade versions that they have. "Tekken 7" will start off slow and hopefully will kick off after its release in console and PC in 2017.
When asked why they created "Tekken 7" not just for consoles like PS4 and Xbox One but also to PC, Harada replied that the availability of Unreal Engine made it easier to release a PC version too. They do know they have markets that prefer PC over console. Harada did not comment on the game's availability on PS4 pro or Xbox Scorpio platforms since the two consoles are relatively new.
Harada emphasized that the story mode plays a vital role in the PS4, Xbox One and PC version of "Tekken 7." In other fighting games, players simply load the game while the character says its short line and then go into battle with a timer. With "Tekken 7" you won't just be thrown into the standard battle.
"Tekken 7" developers have done changes to make the game immersive. The developers are aiming to create an action game that will encourage players to participate. The events in the cinematics connects to the in-game scene and then flows into the gameplay itself.
In terms of character development, Gamespot asked if "Tekken 7" has maintained its diversity of the nationalities of the character they designed. Harada explained that the diversity is due to differences in the approach of character design.
Different ideas occur everytime they develop new characters for "Tekken 7" or any of their other games. Sometimes the idea starts with the fighting styles, then they create a new character from there. Sometimes a designer has the charater's design in mind while there are times that the idea comes from a certain region which might inspire the character design. Harada cited Shaheen, from the Middle East, as an example of a character they created based from a certain region.
Regarding their plans of developing "TekkenxStreetfighter" Harada tells the interviewer and the gamers to just stay tuned. Here's a sneak peak of the upcoming game "Tekken 7" set to release in 2017.
