Blockbuster U.K. recently announced that the Xbox One has broken all previous pre-order launches in its 24-year history following last week's reveal according to reports.
James Morton, Blockbuster's head of games, had this say:
"We are delighted by the huge number of pre-orders that we have received so far for the new Microsoft console.
An exact number of pre-orders sold weren't given for the currently unpriced console. Blockbuster's pre-orders came through a £20 deposit online.
Though Blockbuster mentioned hardware sales, its main business is movie and video game rental. With confusing talks on Microsoft's handling of used and traded games, this puts rental companies in an interesting position. It's been reported that the Xbox One will require a fee for used games along with publishers getting a cut from those sales.
Where does that leave game rental services?
Blockbuster has yet to make a comment regarding how they'll handle game rentals. GameNGuide also attempted to reach Redbox and Gamefly. Redbox didn't respond to inquires but Gamefly's Director of Marketing Serene Chan offered this:
"Gamefly will not be making any statements until further information is released by Microsoft."
Will the Xbox One be the end video game rentals? Let us know in the comments.
