Acclaimed Comic 'Bone' Gets A Director With Mark Osborne

Warner Bros. is back into developing Jeff Smith's award-winning comic "Bone", and now they have tapped a new director to helm the project. Oscar-winning Mark Osborne, who has directed "Kung Fu Panda", "The Little Prince" and "The Spongebob SquarePants Movie", has officially signed on to the project, shooting a screenplay he will co-write with Adam Kline.

"Bone" follows "three Bone cousins-Fone Bone, Phoney Bone and Smiley Bone, all small, bald and humanlike creatures with big noses-who are separated and lost in a vast uncharted desert after being run out of Boneville. One by one they find their way into a deep forested valley filled with wonderful and terrifying creatures."

Osborne appears excited about directing the project, and for this he expressed to THR: "Bone is very special and unconventional because it blends elements together that you don't necessarily expect - soft, little comic characters and epic high-stakes fantasy adventure. To carry this into the cinematic realm presents both an opportunity to represent what readers of all ages have loved about the series, while pushing animated storytelling into exciting and different areas."

"As source material goes," Kline adds. "Jeff's epic is something of a unicorn: mythic, whimsical and pure in equal measure."

The production company is envisioning the project as a three-part movie series, certainly a feasible task what with the abundance of material Osborne and Kline can pull from the 55 issues that the comic ran for. Beyond this, there are no other official announcement made about the project.
