A second trailer has been released for Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures' upcoming monster feature, "Kong: Skull Island". Watch the trailer in full below:
The trailer, which premiered during an appearance from Tom Hiddleston ("Only Lovers Left Alive") on "The Jimmy Kimmel Show", gives a clearer view of Kong's island. Where the previous trailer painted a glum, bleaker picture of the Eight Wonder of the World, this new trailer featured quirkier moments and highlighted more bits with John C. Reily ("Wreck-It Ralph"), John Goodman ("10 Cloverfield Lane"), Samuel L. Jackson ("Django Unchained"), and Brie Larson ("Room").
Set in the 1970's, "Kong: Skull Island" follows a military expedition into an uncharted piece of land resting at the heart of the Pacific. There, they are greeted by a gigantic ape who is known to his devotees as King Kong. The real threat, however, is not the king mad at those that trespass in his kingdom; instead, it is the "skull crawlers", nefarious giant creatures that destroy everything in its wake. The expedition is quickly aborted, but not quick enough for the crew to be left with any choice. Jackson's character appear to have more knowledge about the eponymous island that he lets on, and in one scene Goodman's character persuades him to help them escape to be able to show everyone that there's "proof" of these fantastical creatures' existence.
"Kong: Skull Island" takes place in the same universe as Gareth Edwards' 2014 movie "Godzilla", which would make the Island's crawlers MUTOs (or Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms) and would have to tie up with the upcoming "Godzilla" sequels. This means that a "King Kong vs. Godzilla" movie is forthcoming; in fact, reports already point to an official 2020 release.
"Kong: Skull Island" is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts ("Kings Of Summer") and is written by Dan Gilroy, John Gatins, Derek Connolly, and Max Borenstein. It opens in theaters March 2017.
