The year is about to end and people are starting to make a year-end list for their activities over the year. This includes the nomination for The Game Awards 2016 that has just started the Geoff Keighley-produced event where top publications choose the best games of the year.
Polygon along with 28 international publications chose the nominees for The Game Awards 2016. Eight esports-focused outlets supported the selection of the nominees for the esports categories through which the awards are determined by international fan voting.
According to Polygon, Naughty Dog's "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" is on top of the list of 2016 nominees which received a massive eight nods across six categories including Game of the Year. In the Game of the Year category, Software's "Doom", Playdead's "Inside", Blizzard Entertainment's "Overwatch" and Respawn Entertainment's "Titanfall 2" compete for the title.
"Overwatch", "Inside" and Campo Santo's "Firewatch" each received five nods and all of these three games are nominated for Best Art Direction. "Titanfall 2", "Doom" and EA DICE's "Battlefield 1" are all nominated in four categories including Best Action Game.
In order to be qualified for The Game Awards 2016, games should have a commercial release date on or before Nov. 24, 2016. This doesn't include some 2016 games such as Final Fantasy 15, Dead Rising 4 and The Last Guardian.
Additionally, the games that were released after Nov. 24, 2015 are qualified for this year's awards and this includes Tom Clancy's "Rainbow Six Siege" which was launched in December 2015. It is also nominated for Best Multiplayer Game.
The Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California will host The Game Awards 2016 on Dec. 1 and it will be livestreamed on different platforms along with virtual reality (VR) devices. Before the event starts at 9:00 in the evening, a pre-show is set to start at 8:30 in the evening Eastern Time.
