Gory Detail, a well named, and mobile exclusive studio up to this point, might be on the forefront of reuniting the infamous foul mouthed squirrel with Nintendo's floundering platform, the Wii U. Former Rare staffer Christopher Seavor recently indicated as much on everyone's favorite soapbox, Twitter.
"Wii U devkits ain't cheap and it's lookin likely Gory Detail is gonna need three at some point this year," he wrote.
The foul mouthed mammal that began life as just another cutesy mascot for the Nintendo 64 found a new audience with an adult makeover as an ill-tempered, hard-drinking, pornography loving, furry piece of $#!*. His revamp title, Conker's Bad Fur Day, was the final Rare title for the N64. He would later go on to feature in Conker: Live & Reloaded on the first Xbox (not One), basically a remake a Bad Fur Day with an added multiplayer mode. The squirrel hasn't been heard or seen from since.
Seavor's Tweet generated about as much buzz as the bees for the ample sunflower of Bad Fur Day. However, Rare has since become a property of Microsoft, limiting the chance for Conker's return. But a spiritual follow up remains a possibility. However, whatever Seavor has planned, he hasn't clued followers in just yet. Seavor had previously served as the designer behind Bad Fur Day, as well as project lead, scriptwriter and voice actor for the maladapted mammal. He was let go from Rare in early 2012 before going to work with Gory Detail.
Gory Detail's first title, Parashoot Stan was released this past April, and has been described as a "'reverse vertical platformer cum endless dropping parachute game'. Or if you want to make some sort of sense, an upside down endless runner."
"We stuck with an endless runner format, but we wanted to do something slightly different with it and try and bring a bit of humour into it," Seavor told Eurogamer. "I'm old school, so that way of doing the graphics, going back to Killer Instinct and Donkey Kong with the rendered stuff to give it a personality and character. That was the premise of it.
"We're not going the Conker route of profanity, although it's a little bit gory. It's comic book gore. And maybe a little bit of innuendo but it's low-key," described Seavor.
Seavor's Twitter bio suggests the studio is working on a second mobile title in addition to the mysterious upcoming Wii U game. We'll keep you posted as more details come to light.
