Most of the time gamers have to wait until September to get their hands on the greatest titles of the year. Yet, this year sees some great titles getting released over the summer. Exciting games from big studios to brand new developers will be launched over the next three months. Games from developers such as Naughty Dog, 2K Games and Violation are expected to drop between June-August. Here are some of the most interesting titles to come out this summer.
The Bureau: XCOM Declassified
Release Date: August 20, 2013
Platform(s): PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3
Taking place in the XCOM universe, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified sees players take control of a 1960s FBI agent attempting to uncover and combat alien invaders threatening mankind. The game originally started life as a first-person shooter in 2006. After years of delays the project took on life as a squad-based third-person shooter.
The Bureau shows promise because of its focus on tactical shooting mechanics and an in-depth story looking to examine social and political issues. While lengthy development delays are usually a cause for concern, the game will hopefully surpass expectations when it launches this August.
The Last of Us
Release Date: June 14, 2013
Platform(s): PlayStation 3
An action-adventure survival horror video game developed by the studio behind The Uncharted series sounds promising. Throw in some 28 Days-esque zombies and the game turns into one of the most promising titles of the summer.
The Last of Us sees players take on the role of a post-apocalyptic survivor named Joel. He is tasked with protecting a fourteen year old girl named Ellie as they traverse through a derelict city under the control of the US military.
Game developer, Naughty Dog, has said the game was tonally inspired by the films of the Coen Brothers. Meaning gamers should expect to experience a darkly comedic and nihilistic journey when the game gets released this June.
Remember Me
Release Date: June 4, 2013
Platform(s): PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3
Remember Me was suppose to be out already. However, a short delay saw the game fall back to June. Despite the wait gamers should still be interested in this Sci-Fi adventurer.
The game will see players take on the role of Nilin, a memory hunter in 2084 Paris. Nilin has the ability to enter and change a person's memories. The game will allow players to remix NPC's memories through a variety of puzzles and technical melee combat. The Inception-esque game mechanic adds a new quark to the Sci-Fi adventure genre. While the game will be the first major release from French studio Dontnod Entertainment, the game still holds promise for some summer gaming fun.
Saints Row IV
Release Date: August 20, 2013
Platform(s): PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3
Saints Row is like the crazy cousin of the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Full of ridiculous characters and crazy plots, the game decided to drop the Scorsese-movie vibe of GTA for the insanity of a vulgar slapstick comedy.
The fourth game in the series is sure to ramp up the mayhem in Steelport. Following off its predecessor, Saints Row: The Third, the game will feature the graphical style and sense of humor the series is known for. Saints Row IV boasts new cars, stories and weapons when it comes out this August. Here is hoping it will also feature some cameos from series favorites such as Mr. Genki.
