Talks of a Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor fight will always be around the corner as long Conor McGregor keeps winning. And with his historical victory at UFC 205, talks are once again at a fever pitch.
As early as March, rumors are already swirling when Floyd Mayweather said that he would come out of retirement to fight Conor Mcgregor. In May Floyd Mayweather stated himself that the fight was not only rumor and said that he "absolutely" thinks that it will happen. Then most recently, days after Conor McGregor's UFC 205 win, a TMZ reporter approached Floyd Mayweather and asked to comment about his similarities with the brash Irishman. Floyd Mayweather has this to say, "I didn't know Conor McGregor was undefeated. I didn't know that he had a reign in MMA for 20 years and undefeated and was world champion in five different weight classes. That's something I didn't know." He goes on to say that he is a living legend, dedicating years of blood, sweat and tears to the sport. A comparison to Conor McGregor is an insult to Floyd Mayweather according to him. He tells that the comparison is similar to him being an elephant and Conor Mcgregor as an ant. "Once again, I'm an elephant. An elephant don't beef with ants. Elephant is so large, he don't even see ants."
Not to be outdone, when asked for a comment, Conor McGregor told the boxing champ to say that to his face. He then said that Floyd Mayweather is scared of a real fight and demanded that he wants $100 million dollars for the fight if ever the bout pushes through. "He wants it under boxing rules. He wants a boxing match. Tell Floyd and Showtime, I'm coming. ... I want $100 million cash to fight him under boxing rules because he's afraid of a real fight."
Already with rumors of a possible rematch with Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather has a lot options if he decides to fight again and raise his record to 50-0. Whichever fight he chooses, we can expect it to generate a lot of buzz and provide huge PPV numbers. We can only wait for Floyd Mayweather to decide if he is hungry for another paycheck.
