UFC News: Conor McGregor’s coach calls Tyron Woodley ‘a doable fight’

It’s only been a few days since Conor McGregor made history at UFC 205, becoming the first fighter in the promotion’s history to hold two titles simultaneously by dishing out an unbelievable performance en route to knocking out Eddie Alvarez in under two rounds. But that hasn’t stopped both pundits and fans from speculating about the fighting future of the man known as Mystic Mac.

One name that has suddenly been thrust into the Conor McGregor sweepstakes is welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. And during Monday’s episode of the MMA Hour, John Kavanagh was asked about what he thought about the possibility of facing the 170-pound champ.

“I don’t see what other people are seeing that there’s no way Conor can touch this guy,” Conor McGregor’s coach said. “There is. No one’s perfect. There’s openings there.”

“But he’s not enormous. He’s not some Goliath man. He’s a little bit bigger. Conor would have reach on him, he’d have technique on him in the striking, or course. But I don’t look at him at like ‘oh my god no, we can’t possibly beat him.’ It’s a doable fight.”

Tyron Woodley got into an interesting Twitter exchange with Conor McGregor following the early weigh-ins, where Conor McGregor called him a “b*itch” multiple times. Conor McGregor was also seen shouting at Tyron Woodley before the ceremonial weigh-ins.

On Monday, Tyron Woodley suggested with the tweet below that the potential rematch with Stephen Thompson would have to wait.

During the MMA Hour interview, Kavanagh, who believes Conor McGregor could beat Tyron Woodley should they fight, did say that he doesn’t think the fight will happen, adding, “We’ve got too many irons in the fire.”

Unsurprisingly, a number of fighters have been lining up for a fight with the Irishman. Lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov made his intentions clear that he wants a shot at “chicken” Conor McGregor, while Tony Ferguson also made a good case for himself by dismantling former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos.
