Eddie Redmayne, before he became the star of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is just like any regular actor in Hollywood, working hard to get a specific role. Of course, despite his obvious success now, his days haven't been all good and his time auditioning for Star Wars was one of them.
In a candid and open interview with the British and "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" actor, he revealed how "catastrophically bad" his reading was at the time. In a Happy Sad Confused podcast featured on the Uproxx website, Redmayne said he was required to make a ridiculous voice out of a bad character; that did not work for the actor.
Eddie Redmayne, 32, also revealed that, top films such as Star Wars, they don't actually reveal the lines of the movie during auditions. He remembers saying a line from Pride and Prejudice or a line from the Star Trek movie. When asked whether he auditioned for the character of Hux, he said no and it was actually for the character of Kylo Ren.
Unfortunately, Eddie Redmayne of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" did not get the role; which eventually landed on Adam Driver. Casting director Nina Gold sits on the sideline watching Eddie Redmayne play his part and he only thanks the director for the many opportunities she gave him. Eventually, the audition went "....I was trying again and again with different versions of my kind of "koohh paaaah" [Darth Vader breathing sound] voice. And after like ten shots she's like, "You got anything else?" I was like, "No."
But that was two years ago, and Eddie Redmayne is not the lead character in JK Rowling's "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." Fantastic Beasts is now in theaters worldwide; make sure to check on your region for its exact premiere date.
