Hasbro's My Little Pony series has been enjoying big success as of late, between the animated series and the popular IDW Publishing run based on Twilight Sparkle and company. Fans of the latter can look forward to a special team up between the ponies and Hasbro's other mega-franchise, as an upcoming issue of the comic book will feature a crossover cover between My Little Pony and everyone's favorite Transformer.
Comic Book Resources received an exclusive first look at Tony Fleecs' alternate cover for My Little Pony Micro Series issue 5, which depicts Pinkie Pie donning an Optimus Prime-inspired getup while big ol' Prime himself looms in the background.
The special cover will be exclusive to those who attend San Diego's Transformers Botcon (yes, that's a thing) from June 27-30. The actual book is written by Ted Anderson with art by Ben Bates. This issue likely won't be sold at comic shops in the future, and your best bet for snagging it outside of Botcon is probably through a pricey eBay listing after the event.
Aside from the My Little Pony Micro Series, IDW also publishes an ongoing series titled My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, which focuses on adventures featuring the likes of Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and Fluttershy. Fans can also look forward to My Little Pony: Equestria Girls, a feature-length film dedicated to the teenage counterparts of the fan-favorite ponies.
While this cover crossover is a simple one-off for fans of both franchises, there is nothing that could stop Hasbro from taking the combination further. Would you like to see some sort of comic or television team-up featuring ponies and Transformers?
