Like many others, I loved the Zombieland movie. Woody Harrelson as Tallahassee was a rip roaring madman whose bloodlust for killing zombies was unlike anything I saw in any other zombie movie. Other zombie flicks treated the undead menace as a mystery, something to be studied and understood before facing eradication. Zombieland? Nope. Making the zombie kill of the week was what it was all about. When the movie was done, I wanted more of it. A sequel, a game, something.
But that's just not in the cards. We found out on Friday that Amazon's plans for an original Zombieland TV series won't be making its way past the pilot. Poor reviews from viewers who watched via Amazon's Instant Video Service are to blame. The show's free to watch over at Amazon, provided you're a member. If not, well, much like everything else, you can still find results on YouTube. Don't bother searching, we've already provided the clip for you below.
So watch on, and see for yourself if the show's early cancellation is such a bad thing, or just a blessing in disguise.
The twinkie nod was a nice touch, but in all honesty, I can see why the show never made it past square one. Tallahassee was originally a sandwich vendor at an office? Sacrilege. The show's not meant for fans of the movie, it was going for a larger audience. The Zombieland movie's humor was great, but the Zombieland show's attempt to mimc it came four years too late, trying to force its way into a world that's already engaged by the seriousness of AMC's The Walking Dead.
There are still plenty of ways for gorehounds to get their undead fix, but Zombie Strippers isn't one of 'em. Personally, I'd go with games. Just stay clear of The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct and Dead Island: Riptide. Instead, try Telltale's take on The Walking Dead. It was actually phenomenonally well received by just about everyone, and winner of Game of the Year from multiple publications. Telltale has already set to work on a new season, and should start releasing new episodes this fall, making now the perfect time to play catch up.
