ABC's "Scandal" Season 6 is finally set to return on television on 2017, which means an extended experience of the 2016 US Presidential Elections. The new season to the Shonda Rhimes political thriller will kick right into Elections Night as Republicans Mellie Grant and Jake Ballard go head-to-head against Democrat Frankie Vargas and Cyrus Beene. Which party will ascend to the White House?
It was earlier suggested that fan favorite Mellie Grant (played by Bellamy Young) would emerge as the victor in "Scandal" Season 6. But as her character has been largely patterned on Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton, who lost the White House to business mogul Donald Trump, will this also reflect in the series?
Will Mellie win the presidency?
In a lot of ways, Mellie Grant and Hillary Clinton are the same: both are brilliant stateswomen and seasoned politicians known for their strong policies. And the similarities are not lost on the cast and crew of "Scandal" Season 6, such as Brian Letscher and George Newbern, who said to Bustle they'd be happy to see a Mellie Grant presidency.
Bustle further reported that Shonda Rhimes is planning a "Scandal" Season 6 comeback that mirrors the current electoral cycle. But with Hillary Clinton's stunning defeat to Republican candidate Donald J. Trump, will Mellie Grant suffer a loss as well?
Mellie 'done with running'?
In the first trailer for "Scandal" Season 6, Mellie Grant is seen screaming at Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington). She then revealed that she's "done with the presidency," which either means she's tired of the drama and high stakes involved with the White House, or she's conceding the race.
It's been earlier reported that incumbent President Fitz Grant (Tony Goldwyn) has teamed up with Olivia Pope to make sure that Mellie and Jake wins the White House. Otherwise, the vindictive and incredibly dangerous Cyrus Beene will be one step closer to the presidency. Will they succeed? Find out when "Scandal" Season 6 returns to the screen on Jan. 19, 2017.
