A lot of the social media users affected by the Facebook Glitch received a message on top of their page. It referred to them by name; remembering them as if they had died. It was telling the loved ones to find comfort in the things they share and to celebrate the life of the supposedly dead Facebook account user.
Several affected users shared in social media the screenshots of the Facebook glitch that was asking them to memorialize their account. Some had worried reactions, while some were merely amused. Still, others were confused.
Facebook killed its own creator. Mark Zuckerberg's account was also affected by the Facebook glitch too.
In 2015, Facebook introduced an option to allow a friend or family member to take control of a Facebook user's account when they die. Once Facebook receives a notification that the user has died, it will then memorialise the account. The entrusted friend or family then can post and change the profile accordingly. Many had a preview of that experience while they were still breathing, thanks to the recent Facebook glitch.
A Facebook spokesperson told BBC that they have fixed the terrible error. They did not disclose what caused the Facebook glitch or the number of accounts affected. The tech giant has given their apologies to the affected users.
