A large number of undisclosed Facebook users were incorrectly labeled as deceased on Friday due to a glitch suffered by the social network and added a Memorial banner on the top of many user accounts. Many Facebook users ask friends to "share to remember and celebrate" the life of the user.
Even Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, suffered from such glitch that his page appeared to have been affected. There are no confirmations as to the numbers of Facebook users who were affected by the said glitch, but they claimed that the "Memorial" banner just automatically appeared on their accounts.
They even claimed that they have not been triggered by any notification and the said glitch disappeared after a few minutes.
Facebook posted a statement of apology stating, "For a brief period today, a message meant for memorialized profiles was mistakenly posted to other accounts."
It further claimed that it was a terrible error, but they have already fixed the problem. Facebook said that they are very sorry about the incident and they responded quickly as possible to fix it.
According to Forbes, the bugs suffered by Facebook were due to the many complex concerns of users about the social network. It aggravated when Donald Trump became the president-elect of the United States. A lot of public debate has been circulated around the social media's system. Facebook should provide its users- that are nearly 2 billion- news and contents. Aside from that, there are false information and fake news that have been distributed on the app.
Mark Zuckerberg defended the role of Facebook in circulating contents during on an on-stage interview on Thursday. He defended that the social network has nothing to do with the result of the election that was perceived by others as a "crazy election".
According to a report in The Verge, Zuckerberg said that there is a very small amount of fake contents in Facebook and that the idea of Facebook influencing the election is a pretty crazy idea. He also claimed that decisions made by the voters are based on their experiences, not based on Facebook.
