"The Originals" Season 4 is swirling with cancellation rumors after The CW ordered to reduce the number of episodes from 22 to 13. In an interview with TV Line, The CW boss defends why "The Originals" Season 4 wasn't included in their fall schedule.
The CW President Mark Pedowitz explained that they still have faith in "The Originals" Season 4. The decision to include the vampire spinoff series was to make sure that they still have a strong schedule come midseason of next year.

However, it should be noted that The CW president also shot down rumors of "The Vampire Diaries" ending on its eighth season. Turns out, "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will be the last of the vampire-inspired series. With this, it seems that "The Originals" Season 4 has a possibility of becoming the last of the spinoff series as well.
'The Vampire Diaries' Crossover To 'The Originals' Season 4
As previously reported by GameNGuide, fans have been calling for "The Vampire Diaries" to crossover to New Orleans to save the Mikaelsons in "The Originals" Season 4. However, the show hasn't confirmed such from happening although series creator Julie Plec has admitted on plotting future crossovers between the two shows.
"The Originals" Season 4 may be certain to air January of next year, but Julie Plec has been cryptic about the future of the spinoff series. In fact, latest rumors suggest that there may be a new "The Vampire Diaries" spinoff, which could possibly replace "The Originals."
