The next installment in the Phoenix Wright series has been known as Ace Attorney 5 until today, but on Monday Capcom revealed the game's official name: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies.
Dual Destinies follows Phoenix Wright and his team at Wright Anything Agency as they track down the cause (or perhaps culprit) behind the destruction of the game's famous courtroom setting. Along the way, gamers will be challenged in cases against Gaspen Payne, brother of Winston Payne who was in previous installments.
"The much loved gameplay and features from previous titles in the Ace Attorney series return but for the first time in stunning 3D graphics, bringing the courtroom and characters to life and putting players directly in the heart of the action," says Capcom. "Players will need to investigate each crime scene with the dynamic 3D visuals now making it possible to change views and zoom in on areas to uncover any hidden evidence or clues. In the court room the drama continues as players present their evidence, challenge witnesses and begin to unravel the truth behind each of the cases in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney -Dual Destinies."
Series regular Apollo Justice returns in Dual Destinies, along with the introduction of a new character, associate attorney Athena Cykes. Cykes is a psychoanalyst that brings the new "Mood Matrix" feature to the series.
This Mood Matrix mode gives players the chance to study and determine the emotional state of a witness, helping them find contradictions and clues in each witness's testimony. For instance, a witness may speak in a confident manner, but be feeling quite nervous about the lie they're telling. Even without physical evidence, Cykes will be able to help players pick out these differences and shout objection when the time is right.
Dual Destinies is set to release on the Nintendo 3DS eShop in Europe and North America in Autumn 2013. There's no word on a physical release of the game at this time.
