Insomniac games CEO Ted Price said Friday on Reddit that the developers of Ratchet and Clank and Resistance will not be developing games for Nintendo's Wii U.
"Wii U is something I'd consider more current gen - but we're not working on games for it," Price posted. "When it comes to PS4 I'm excited that they seem to be lowering barriers for independent developers It's cool to see almost weekly announcements from Sony explaining how they're opening things up for indies. And of course I'm very excited to see what Microsoft announces soon."
This comes as one of many blows to third-party development support for Nintendo's eighth generation console. Just Cause cause developer Avalanche Studios told Pressfire (with translation from The Escapist) that the Wii U's lack of a large enough user base isn't enough for development investment.
"We actually had some development kits that just collected dust," said Christofer Sunberg, Avalanche founder." It's a bit sad, because we wanted to do something. I think it is a cool platform, but right now its not just up to us. We want the game to reach as many as possible."
Because of the Wii-U's lack of processing power, many studios have decided to lesson support or flat out ignore development for the console. EA said that games using DICE's Frostbite 3 engine would not be hitting the Wii U and also miss out on this year's installment of Madden. Epic Games' Mark Rein had to backpedal on comments regarding official support for the console.
Though everything doesn't seem to be going in the "house that Mario built"s favor, Nintendo is staying optimistic regarding third party support.
"Disney, Ubisoft and our other third-party partners have a great lineup of exclusive games and unique experiences for fans of all ages," said Steve Singer, Nintendo of America's Vice President of Licensing. " Their creative spans every audience and genre, creating new ways to play that can be experienced on Nintendo platforms."
Insomniac games is preparing to launch their first multi-platform game Fuse for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in North America on May 28.
