Online retailing giant Amazon seems to be thinking beyond its range of Kindle devices as it now looks to expand its business into smartphones, music streaming boxes and more. While rumors surrounding its new business interests have been doing the rounds for some time now, a new report reveals that the in-development Amazon smartphone may include a 3D display.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the company is working on two smartphones and a standalone device for streaming audio. The insiders have also revealed that the smartphones would feature 3-D screens that works without glasses. The device will also come with eye-tracking technology enabling users to scroll with their eyes.
"Using retina-tracking technology, images on the smartphone would seem to float above the screen like a hologram and appear three-dimensional at all angles," the sources said. "Inside Amazon's Lab126 facility in Cupertino, Calif., where each of the devices have been under development, the efforts are known as Project A, B, C and D, or collectively the Alphabet Projects," the report quotes people familiar with Amazon plans.
Although the Seattle-based e-commerce giant has plans to release some of these devices in the coming months, the report notes there is possibility that some or all of the devices could be shelved due to performance, financial or other concerns.
