Microsoft Xbox One has been in the market for three years now and has managed to maintain a steady fanbase despite the competition it has with Sony PlayStation 4. Now, a new breed of Xbox One, the Xbox One S, is out in the market and those who are considering getting a console might ask which of the two Microsoft products is better.
Xbox One vs. Xbox One S: Controller and Overall Design
One of the major changes seen in Xbox One S is that it is slimmer compared to its predecessor. Microsoft has redesigned the console so it will be more than half of the size of the Xbox One. This would allow the machine to sit next to your TV without taking up too much space. The Xbox One S has fixed some of the design flaws in Xbox One - for instance, the inconveniently placed controller sync button and the touch-sensitive power button. Generally, the newer console has a more aesthetic appeal compared to its predecessor.
The Xbox One S controller has also received an upgrade. The new controller now features a Bluetooth for wireless gaming, as well as a headphone jack that will be used to command the digital assistant. The new controller has also been revamped to give users a better grip, but still, it feels like the traditional Xbox One controller.
Xbox One vs. Xbox One S: Specs, Features & Availability
The most significant change found in Xbox One S is its 4K video support; it also serves as an Ultra 4K HD Blu-Ray player. More importantly, Microsoft has enhanced the machine's speed performance to allow HDR gaming. Still, the difference in speed from Xbox One is only minimal. Three variants of the Xbox One S are available: the 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB variants, priced at $299, $349 and $399, respectively. The Xbox One is currently priced at $249.
Should You Make the Upgrade?
For interested console buyers, Xbox One S is surely a great deal to choose for its price and specs. However, those who already own an Xbox One do not really need the upgrade, unless Ultra 4K HD resolution and slight speed boost are of utter importance. Microsoft is set to introduce Project Scorpio sometime in the future, and would-be buyers might need to wait to see what this new gaming console can bring to the table.
