Fans of Plants vs. Zombies – take heart.
PopCap Games reveals that the highly anticipated sequel to the popular tower defense game Plants vs. Zombies is incoming this July. PopCap Games’ community marketing manager for Plants vs. Zombies Stephanie Bayer confirmed the news via her Twitter page.
“Yay! I can finally say it! PvZ 2: It’s About Time is coming in July,” she wrote.
The original Plants vs. Zombies game made its debut as a PC and OS X game back in May of 2009. The game was later ported over to iOS, Android, Chrome, the Xbox 360, the Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, PS Vita, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, and even Samsung's Bada operating system.
The first title has been one of the most successful games ever to be released by PopCap, and was also one of the biggest reasons why EA decided to buy PopCap in 2011 for $650 million and $100 million in stock. After the takeover was complete, the developer laid off 50 employees in North America, and closed its Dublin office.
Plants vs. Zombies is also the 12th most downloaded paid iOS app ever.
While there’s nothing much known about the game, as of now, but a short YouTube video was released following the announcement that includes frustrated people shouting and questioning why it has taken so long (nearly four years) for PopCap to release a sequel for the game.
