Another linked cinematic universe is about to hit the theaters but this time, it would be the classic monsters by Universal Pictures. The film company is about to start its new movie connections with "The Mummy" Reboot.
The 1999 "The Mummy" film was starred by Brendan Fraser along with Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo and Patricia Velasquez. Now, their roles will be reprised by Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Sofia Boutella, Jake Johnson and Russell Crowe in "The Mummy" Reboot.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, "Doctor Strange" co-writer Jon Spaihts talked about the theme of the coming "The Mummy" Reboot if it is going to take the same action adventure theme of its original tale. "I think [there is] a similar desire to legitimately explore the frightening and the cosmic. In 'The Mummy,' I think we're going to see the first 'Mummy' film in the entire Universal canon with the true power to terrify."
The 1932 "The Mummy" of Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi was known for being a little scary. "The Mummy" Reboot, on the other hand, will carry all the possible action and adventure it can take, but will still be added with a lot of scares. This will be the Tom Cruise film will have to offer.
Meanwhile, speaking in another interview with Den of Geek, Jon Spaihts revealed that "The Mummy" Reboot is also set to have a lot of known artists, writers, but he cleared that he is the first screenwriter on board. "I did a bunch of drafts. Then I co-wrote a bunch of drafts with the director, Alex Kurtzman, a lovely guy. I've had a lot to do with the shaping of it."
He also described the coming "The Mummy" Reboot to have a touch of modernity with updated cinematography and other sensibilities. However, Jon Spaihts admitted that he is not working for the film anymore, but still have "high hopes" for it. "The Mummy" Reboot is set to be released on June 19, 2017.
