NBA trade rumors involving DeMarcus Cousins have been out for quite some time now but nothing has materialized thus far. Teams like the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers could make use of someone like “Boogie” though some are thinking twice because of the attitude issues surrounding tied up to the all-star center/forward.
It is no secret that Cousins has been a tough cookie both inside and outside the basketball court. He had that celebrated feud with former head coach George Karl, a negative sign in the eyes of other team execs.
Aside from that, the Kings are reportedly asking too much in return for a DeMarcus Cousins trade. When it comes to talent alone, that could be justifiable. But as far as team harmony is concerned, Cousins’ tirades have raised red flags, Yahoo Sports reported.
Some general managers believe that the Kings are holding on to Cousins mainly because they are left with little choice. When asked on what they could offer in exchange for “Boogie”, most don’t seem bent on offering too much for the controversial player.
The consensus among general managers is simple. Only teams with officials carrying a strong personality can manage Cousins. Looking at the teams right now, that could be a rarity.
Only two names crop up for now – Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs and Doc Rivers of the Los Angeles Clippers. Both have shown they can manage all-stars and put them to good use. For the Clippers, it is unlikely that Rivers will take in a problem player with Blake Griffin doing fine.
The scenario could be interesting for the Spurs. NBA trade rumors involving LaMarcus Aldridge previously came out, as the 31-year-old has reportedly failed to impress in his first season in San Antonio, per a report from Yahoo Sports. If he fails to impress, could there be a chance that coach Popovich and the Spurs consider a player swap?
