As of today, the Windows 10 Store version of "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" has been launched. The thirteenth primary installment of the franchise, however, is not without some shortcomings that left the gaming community disappointed.
VG 24/7 reported that the Windows 10 version of "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" restricts cross-play interaction with other dominant platforms including Steam. As such, Windows 10 users will not be able to matchmake with players from Steam version of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
This is also as per the announcement at the Activision Support wherein it was clarified that cross-play between Windows 10 and Xbox Live or other PC platforms will not be possible.
"No, you can only play these titles with other users of Windows 10 on Windows Store," written in FAQ to answer the questions whether Windows 10 gamers can play Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare with their friends who are using Xbox One or any other PC platforms.
It is further clarified that "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" is not under the Play Anywhere program. To quote from the support, "If you purchase for Windows 10 on Windows Store, you will only be able to play on your PC. If you purchase on Xbox One, you will only be able to play on your Xbox One Console."
This basically means that Windows 10 blocks its users from interacting with other Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare players who are using different platforms. This can be attributed to the third-party restrictions in the inbuilt marketplace of Windows 10.
As per Microsoft Central, the publication's source has divulged that this decision to separate and isolate Windows 10 Store and Win32 PC platform players came entirely from Activision. It is further reported that there is nothing about the UWP toolset of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare that is preventing functions of cross-play.
Moreover, an official statement from Microsoft has been released in the media outlet which reads as follows, "We support cross-play between devices and platforms for partners who want to enable it."
As such, the gaming community is quite looking forward that Activision will reverse this decision. Would you like the Windows 10 version of "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" to adopt a cross-play functionality? Stay tuned for more exciting updates!
